Eucalyptus
Eucalyptus is a plant of the Myrtaceae family native to Australia, with 800 to 1000 varieties. Eucalyptus leaves contain flammable substances called terpenes, which are said to be one of the causes of frequent forest fires in Australia. They are also known to many as food for koalas. ESS is extracted from eucalyptus leaves by steam distillation, and since it is very inexpensive, there are very few eucalyptus blends. The main components of ESS are cineole, pinene, and citronellal. It has a unique green tone and a minty scent that lingers in the nose, and the fragrance is also used in throat lozenges and cough drops.
