Civet

Civet is an animal-derived fragrance extracted from the secretions of the civet cat's secretory gland sac, and is native to Ethiopia and Guinea. When used alone, it has an animalic note that gives off a strong fecal odor, and when used in perfumes, it is generally diluted and used in very small amounts. In order to make the most of its scent, it is used in chypre and leather types. It may be surprising, but it is also frequently used in floral types. Although it is hard to imagine from its scent alone, when used in very small amounts in floral types, it gives the flowers a fresh and lively scent, and it is even said that it is difficult to reproduce the scent of natural flowers without civet.
