Cedarwood
Cedarwood is the basic fragrance for woody notes. It is made from trees of the cypress and pine families, and is native to North America, Mexico, Guatemala, etc. The fragrance is extracted by steam distillation of the heartwood of the tree. "Cedar" means spiritual power, and cedarwood has long been used as incense in temples. Its scent is that of dried wood, and when used alone, it gives a dry and stimulating impression. It evokes the nostalgic scent of pencil shavings and art rooms that Japanese people find nostalgic. It is often used in iris, amber, and leather type perfumes.
