Balsam of Peru

Balsam of Peru is a plant of the pine family native to South America. When it is injured, it produces resin to protect it. The fragrance is obtained by molecular distillation of the resin. Its scent is balsamic, combining a rich sweetness reminiscent of vanilla with a woody note typical of balsam and a sweetness like cinnamon. Balsam of Peru is often used in woody and oriental perfumes. It is also said that Balsam of Peru trees are very strong and can continue to produce fragrance for 100 years.
