cardamom

Cardamom is a plant belonging to the ginger family and is mainly grown in India and Sri Lanka. The whole fruit or just the seeds are crushed into powder and then steam distilled to extract the essential oil. Its scent is classified as a spicy note, but while the main scent is a hot spice, it also has clear citrus notes such as lime and mandarin, and cool floral notes such as lilac. It is often used in men's perfumes such as citrus colognes and fougeres.
